An elderly individual can suffer great harm when a caretaker engages in improper conduct when it comes to the elderly individual's medications. Thus, it is very important for caretakers to engage in only proper conduct when it comes to the medications of patients. It is also very important for nursing homes to take all reasonable steps to ensure that wrongful medication-related conduct doesn't occur at their facilities.

Recently, a case involving allegations of wrongful medication-related conduct has arisen in Kentucky. The case involves a 41-year-old woman. According to the article on the Courier-Journal's website which reported this story, the woman was a caretaker at a nursing home in Burkesville, Kentucky.

The woman has been accused of having committed wrongful conduct in regards to the medications of 10 patients of the nursing home. Specifically, the woman has been accused of having taken hydrocodone pills from the patients and of having deprived the patients of medications that they needed.

Recently, the woman was indicted in connection to these allegations. According to the Courier-Journal article mentioned above, the woman has been charged with 11 counts of theft of a controlled substance and 11 counts of neglect. Reportedly, the woman could be given a substantial prison sentence if she is convicted of these charges. One wonders what will ultimately happen in this case.

Wrongful medication-related conduct by caretakers like that alleged in this case can be very harmful to elderly individuals. No elderly individual should have to suffer harm because a caretaker acted improperly. Thus, one hopes that caretakers are held accountable when they engage in wrongful medication-related conduct.
