Residents of elder care facilities, such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities, can suffer great harm when they are subjected to abuse at the facility they are staying at. Thus, it is very important for owners of elder care facilities and workers at elder care facilities to make sure to not act abusively towards residents.
Recently, an article on KRDO's website reported on some very troubling allegations of elder abuse that have arisen in Colorado. The allegations center around an assisted living facility in Colorado.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment alleges that the owner of this assisted living facility committed abuse against residents of the facility. The state agency alleges that the owner physically abused residents in a variety of ways, such as by grabbing, restraining, hitting and slapping them. The state agency further claims that the owner committed other forms of abuse against residents, such as mental abuse.
According to the KRDO article mentioned above, the above-mentioned Colorado state agency has suspended the assisted living facility's license in connection to these allegations. The article did not mention whether or not any criminal charges or civil claims have been brought or are planned to be brought against the assisted living facility's owner in connection to the above allegations.
Reportedly, the owner of the assisted living facility denies the above allegations and is planning to appeal the suspension of the assisted living facility's license.
No resident of an elder care facility should have to face abuse like that alleged in this matter. Thus, one hopes that elder care facilities, elder care facility owners and elder care facility workers are held accountable when they act abusively towards residents.
